What Is the Italian B2 Level?

The B2 level (Upper Intermediate) is the fourth stage of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). At this level, you can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, interact with a degree of fluency, and produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects.

B2 is often considered the threshold for professional proficiency — many employers and universities require B2 certification.

What You Can Do at B2

  • Interact with fluency and spontaneity with native speakers without strain
  • Understand extended speech and lectures on familiar and unfamiliar topics
  • Read articles and reports concerned with contemporary issues
  • Write clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects
  • Express opinions on topical issues and explain advantages and disadvantages
  • Understand films and TV with less reliance on subtitles
