What Is the Italian B1 Level?
The B1 level (Intermediate) is the third stage of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). At this level, you can deal with most situations while travelling, produce simple connected text on familiar topics, describe experiences and events, and give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
B1 is a major milestone — it’s the level required for Italian citizenship, university foundation courses, and many professional roles.
What You Can Do at B1
- Handle everyday conversations with confidence on familiar topics
- Express opinions, feelings, and hopes with reasonable accuracy
- Describe experiences and events, dreams and ambitions
- Understand the main points of clear standard speech on work, school, leisure

B1 Italian Certification
B1 certification is the most commonly required Italian qualification. It’s needed for:
